September 16, 2025, Kuwohi Connection

The Center for Native Health (CNH), along with numerous partners, recently hosted the year’s final Kuwohi Connection Days. Students from Cherokee Central Schools, New Kituwah Academy, and Smoky Mountain Elementary participated in the event.

The day began with a brisk, foggy Kuwohi Sunrise Celebration, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the mountain’s original Cherokee name restoration. CNH was honored to help facilitate this significant event and is immensely proud of the effort that made it possible.

As the clouds gradually parted, students arrived for the Kuwohi Educational event. After attending the educational sessions, students had the opportunity to hike to the observation tower and experience Kuwohi’s breathtaking views.

CNH extends a special thank you to all the volunteers, National Park Service staff, The Wilderness Society, NC Cooperative Extension and the EBCI Community Clubs for their contributions.
