Judaculla’s Kids First Field Trip
The Judaculla’s Kids Club embarked on its first field trip on October 23, 2025! Embracing the spirit of Halloween, the trip focused on sharing scary Cherokee places and stories. They came together at Kituwah Mound, making several stops on the way to Murphy, NC.
Students learned about The Uktena, The Water Cannibals, Spear-Finger, The Giant Leech, The Giant Lizard, and The Daughter of the Sun, visiting the places where these stories are said to have originated.
A special stop in Murphy included lunch at the Downtown Pizza Company, where Ms. Lizz generously provided pizza for the students. After lunch, they illustrated their learning on maps, showing where each story took place and what they remembered most.
These stories and places hold deep meaning, and it’s important for young Cherokee people to understand and preserve them as part of their culture and identity.
