Medcat (Medical Careers in Technology)

Medcat summer camp

As part of our on-going partnership with Wake Forest University Medical Center, the Center for Native Health continues to sponsor MedCat summer camps. The camp is filled to capacity this year, with 30 students from six regional high schools in Western North Carolina. These schools include Cherokee, Swain, Robbinsville, Smoky Mountain (Jackson County), Murphy, and Andrews high schools. Students will be on the WFUMC campus the week of July 14, 2013. They will be introduced to college life, participate in research activities regarding diabetes, visiting labs and working with WFUMC faculty. Students from the last two years have stated this has been a life-changing event for them and has given them the encouragement and support needed to pursue medical careers and return home to take care of their own communities.
