2nd Annual Smithsonian Institute Workshop Update

The Center for Native Health was honored and pleased to co-sponsor an annual meeting of the Smithsonian Institute’s Native Health and Culture Workgroup in April of 2015, the Patterns of Native Health and Wellbeing—an Intercultural Symposium.

Held here in the Cherokee homeland and hosted by Western Carolina University’s College of Health and Human Sciences, this gathering covered diverse topics including:

  • Revitalizing Traditional Protocols regarding Maternal Child and Women’s Health
  • Sacred Texts and the Consciousness of Material Culture:  How can Artifacts Help Integrate Culture and Health?
  • Building Blocks of Food Sovereignty
  • Health and Culture Research in Indian Country
